Match Report: FC Pride 6 – 1 Southern Indiana Guardians
Date: May 18, 2025 – NPSL Regular Season
FC Pride Soccer Club made history on Sunday evening as they claimed their first-ever victory in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) with a commanding 6–1 win over their southern neighbors, the Southern Indiana Guardians. The match, played just 24 hours after a draining loss to the Milwaukee Torrent, showcased the resilience and determination of the FC Pride squad.
From the opening whistle, it was evident that Head Coach Jamie Gilbert’s side was eager to rebound. Within the first 10 minutes, forward Julian Smith broke the deadlock with a composed right-footed finish, slotting the ball into the far left corner after a well-worked buildup. The early goal energized the home fans and set the tone for what would become a dominant display.
Shortly after, FC Pride’s aggressive high press paid off. Midfielder Kabiri Gafar intercepted a poor clearance forced by the pressing front line and made no mistake, calmly finishing past the Southern Indiana goalkeeper to double the lead. The home side continued to pile on the pressure, and it was not long before they found their third. Spencer Holland, operating from the right, delivered a pinpoint ball across the face of goal that Julian Smith expertly converted for his second goal of the match.
Although Southern Indiana managed to pull one back just before the halftime whistle—taking advantage of a brief lapse in concentration from the FC Pride backline—the hosts went into the break with a comfortable 3–1 lead and full control of the game.
In the second half, FC Pride picked up right where they left off. Their midfield continued to dominate possession, effectively shutting down any attempts by the Guardians to mount a comeback. The home team added three more goals in the final 45 minutes, with substitutes and starters alike contributing to the attacking display.
The 6–1 final scoreline not only highlighted FC Pride’s attacking prowess but also underscored their ability to bounce back from adversity. Coming off a tough match against Milwaukee the previous night, the team showed impressive mental toughness and squad depth.
Head Coach Jamie Gilbert was full of praise for his team following the historic win. “The first win in the NPSL is a big milestone for the club,” Gilbert said. “The lads responded well after a disappointing game yesterday, and we can use this to build on. It was important to come back strong, and they delivered on every level.”
With this victory, FC Pride collected a crucial 3 points. The win gives the club momentum heading into their next challenge: a high-stakes road match this Friday against the Michigan Rangers, a quality side expected to provide a tough test. The upcoming clash promises to be an exciting and competitive fixture as FC Pride looks to build on their success and continue through their debut NPSL season.
